Who In The Bible Camped Out For 100 Years?

June’s Faith And Family Box Theme

Welcome to Summer! As I sat in my backyard writing this month’s guide, my mind envisioned warm summer nights with fireflies lighting the wooded area near our patio. I am dreaming of long walks on a sandy beach and the sound of the ice cream truck as it makes its way through our neighborhood. Don’t you love all the things that make each season special?

Something else that reminds me of summer is going camping with family, enjoying s’mores around the fire pit and looking up at a night sky filled with stars. Stars take my breath away. As I look upon those stars, I think about the joy my Abba must have as He looks upon His creation.

Someone else we know from the Bible spent a good portion of his life camping with his family. His name was Abraham. At the age of seventy-five, Abraham had an encounter with God which would change his life forever. He had been living in the area of Mesopotamia (known today as Iraq) on the Persian Gulf. The culture in which he lived was very polytheistic. They worshipped many gods. In the midst of that culture, rose Abraham who made the bold decision to worship the one true living God and to worship Him only. As Abraham chose to step-out from the culture around Him, God made the choice to build a nation through Abraham. A nation in which He would send His son, Jesus, to redeem a lost world.

In Hebrews 11:8-9 the Bible says, “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country, he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs of the same promise.”

It took incredible faith for Abraham to set out on a journey to an unknown land without any idea of what this new land would be like. He didn’t have the weather app to let him know what type of clothing to bring or a GPS to map out his route. He had to completely rely on his relationship with God. God was his GPS.

In the month of June, our subscribers camped out with Abraham and our prayer is that our families got a glimpse of what it means to follow God with our lives.

Let’s go camping!
